Food prices have increased by 14.2% since the beginning of the year

According to TEPAV Food Price Index data, food prices rose by 2.68 percent monthly in April. While annual food inflation reached the 30 percent level, the increase rate since the beginning of the year has been 14.2 percent.

Food prices have increased by 14.2% since the beginning of the year

According to data from the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey's (TEPAV) Food Price Index (TEGE), monthly food inflation increased by 2.68 percent in April. The TEPAV Food Price Index data for April 2025 has been released. Accordingly, food inflation increased by 2.68 percent in April. While the annual increase was 30 percent, the increase since the beginning of the year was 14.2 percent.

In the fresh fruit and vegetable category in April, the products with the highest price decreases were strawberries, eggplants, and cucumbers, while high price increases were observed in cauliflower, lemons, and arugula.

PRICES FELL FOR VINEGAR, OLIVES, AND BAKLAVA

Among products outside the fresh fruit and vegetable category, the highest price increases occurred in fish, instant soups, and eggs, while price decreases were detected in vinegar, olives, and baklava.

DATA FROM OTHER ORGANIZATIONS

As of May 2, 2025, for the period of April 1-30, 2025, food inflation calculated by other organizations was 1.78 percent for TÜRK-İŞ kitchen inflation, 1.57 percent for the ITO Istanbul Consumer Price Index (İTÜFE), and 2.62 percent for the ITO Wage Earners Cost of Living Index (ÜGE).

As of April, annual food inflation was calculated at 30 percent for TEGE, 35.6 percent for TÜRK-İŞ kitchen inflation, 41.6 percent for İTÜFE, and 39.1 percent for ÜGE.
