Foreign investors sold $1.3 billion in bonds over two weeks

According to data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), non-resident investors were net buyers in the stock market during the week ending September 25, while they made strong sales in TL-denominated bonds.

During that week, foreign investors' net purchases in stocks amounted to $358.6 million. In contrast, there was a net sale of $409.9 million in TL-denominated government bonds and $434.4 million in TL-denominated private sector bonds.

An outflow had also been observed on the bond side in the previous week, during which the effects of a fund-driven liquidity crisis were being monitored. Thus, in the two-week period, the net outflow from government domestic debt securities reached $526.8 million, while the outflow from private sector bonds reached $766 million. The total net sale in both markets was approximately $1.3 billion.

On the stock side, it was observed that foreign investors viewed the downward trend last week as a buying opportunity. As of the first 39 weeks of 2026, foreign investors' net purchases in stocks since the beginning of the year were calculated at $1.94 billion. In the same period, net purchases of $1.77 billion were recorded in government domestic debt securities (DİBS) and $3.33 billion in private sector bonds.

The data also revealed that the increase in foreign currency deposits held by domestic residents continued. Adjusted for parity effects, foreign currency deposits of individuals increased by $1 billion 24 million last week; $572 million of this increase came from foreign currency-denominated deposits.

There was a $318 million increase in foreign currency deposits of legal entities, adjusted for parity. Thus, total foreign currency deposits grew by $1 billion 342 million on a weekly basis. The increase adjusted for parity effects over the last three weeks has reached $6 billion 175 million.
