In a statement on Alaska Air's official website, it was noted that a payment of $1.9 billion will be made for the company, including Hawaiian Airlines' $900 million in debt.
The statement indicated that the two merging companies will continue to operate under their own names and will reach a capacity to provide flights to a total of 138 separate destinations.
The statement, which noted that Hawaiian Airlines will continue its operations based in Honolulu, emphasized that Hawaii will continue to grow as a center of attraction.
It was reported that the full merger is expected to be completed within 12 to 18 months, following approval by the boards of directors of both U.S. airlines and the shareholders of Hawaiian Holdings.
