Attention to those whose pension is below that figure: If the base salary is not adjusted, millions of retirees will not receive a raise!

Although AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared 2024 the 'Year of Retirees,' retirees have been condemned to a poverty wage.

While there is eager anticipation regarding what the lowest pension will be in 2025, millions of retirees are also waiting for a legal regulation to be made for the base salary.

If the regulation is not implemented, millions of retirees whose base salary remains below 10,700 TL will continue to receive 12,500 TL in 2025.

There are approximately 4 million retirees trying to get by on the lowest pension. It is estimated that the inflation adjustment will be 17 percent at the end of December. A 17 percent raise is also expected for retirees in the new year. This means that with this increase, they will continue to receive the lowest pension in the new year as well.

Social Security expert Özgür Erdursun made the following statements regarding the base salary issue in pensions:

“MILLIONS OF RETIREES WILL AGAIN RECEIVE 12 THOUSAND 500 LIRA”

“There are those who receive 7 thousand lira, 8 thousand lira, 10 thousand lira as a base salary. These low pensions are topped up to the 12,500 lira minimum determined by the state. If the government does not carry out such work, millions of people will again receive 12,500 lira in January. Even if a 17 percent inflation adjustment is applied to the base salaries of those whose base salary is up to 10,700 lira, these individuals' pensions will not exceed 12,500 lira.”

Approximately 4 million retirees receiving the lowest pension do not expect a raise in the new year because no adjustment has been made to the base salary, and it is not expected to be made before the new year either.

“THE LAW MUST BE PASSED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE”

“This process needs to happen as soon as possible, at least in December; a law regarding this needs to be passed by parliament,” said Özgür Erdursun, noting that time is running out. Retirees, with about a month left until the new year, want a raise in their salaries for the new year.

JANUARY IS EXPECTED FOR BASE SALARY ADJUSTMENT

According to Mynet, since the base salary adjustment has still not been made, retirees whose base salary remains below 10,700 lira will again face 12,500 lira in January.

Predictions are that the base salary adjustment will be made in January as it was before, but according to retirees, a 17 percent increase will still not be a remedy for the retirees' problems.
