Central Bank interest rate decision announced! What was the first interest rate decision of 2025?

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Monetary Policy Committee (PPK) met today under the chairmanship of Fatih Karahan. In this critical meeting, which the markets were eagerly awaiting, the first interest rate decision of 2025 was announced. The TCMB lowered the policy rate from 47.5 percent to 45 percent in January.

WHAT WAS THE EXPECTATION?

17 economists participated in the survey conducted by AA Finance regarding the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey's (TCMB) Monetary Policy Committee (PPK) meeting. According to the results of the survey, all participants had predicted that the policy rate would be reduced to 45 percent following a 250 basis point cut.

THE FIRST INTEREST RATE CUT IN 22 MONTHS CAME IN DECEMBER

In December, the TCMB had lowered the policy rate by 250 basis points to 47.5 percent. Thus, an interest rate cut was implemented for the first time in 22 months.

8 MEETINGS INSTEAD OF 12

The Central Bank had announced that it would hold 8 meetings instead of 12 for the year 2025. The date for the second PPK meeting of the year was set for March 6.
