Customers beware! Check your account: 3 banks have started charging account maintenance fees
It has been reported that some banks in Turkey have started deducting money from their customers under the name of 'account maintenance fees.' Due to deductions reaching up to 790 TL annually, customers have decided to close their accounts.
In Turkey, some banks have started charging an "account maintenance fee" on stock investment accounts. This new practice has caused surprise and backlash among investors.
JOINT MOVE BY THREE BANKS
Garanti Yatırım, Yapı Kredi Yatırım, and Halk Yatırım have announced that they will charge an "account maintenance fee" on stock accounts. The banks notified their customers of this practice via text message.
FEES AND COLLECTION PERIODS
The banks announced that they will collect account maintenance fees every 6 months. The annual amounts for the fees have been determined as follows:
Halk Yatırım: 390 TL
Garanti Yatırım: 500 TL
Yapı Kredi Yatırım: 790 TL
CUSTOMERS ARE CLOSING THEIR ACCOUNTS
This practice has received harsh reactions from stock investors. It has been stated that some investors have closed their accounts due to the high costs.
Whether other banks will join this practice remains a matter of curiosity.
