Deposit interest rates are racing to a record: Those with 1 million earn an extra salary
The increase in deposit interest rates at banks has significantly boosted the income of citizens with substantial savings. Those with a deposit of 1 million TL are earning more than the net minimum wage over a 32-day term.
As we enter 2026, the new regulation on the minimum wage is drawing attention. According to the announcement, effective January 1, 2026, the minimum wage has been increased to a gross of 33,030 TL and a net of 28,075.50 TL.
However, the high interest rates recently offered by banks provide returns that act as an additional monthly salary, especially for citizens with savings of 1 million TL or more.
The monetary policies implemented by the Central Bank and market expectations have pushed bank deposit interest rates above 40 percent. In some banks, interest rates have reached as high as 52 percent.
Under these conditions, the net return for an investor who deposits 1 million TL in a 32-day term deposit ranges between 23,000 TL and 37,000 TL. This amount is higher than the net minimum wage set for 2026.
The average net returns provided for 1 million TL over a 32-day term, bank by bank, are as follows:
Enpara (33%): 23,868 TL
Halkbank (37%): 26,761 TL
İş Bankası / Odea (38.5%): 27,846 TL
Garanti BBVA (39.5%): 28,569 TL
Akbank (40.5%): 29,293 TL
DenizBank (41.5%): 30,016 TL
Yapı Kredi / ON Dijital (43%): 31,101 TL
QNB (43.25%): 31,282 TL
VakıfBank (43.5%): 31,463 TL
Fibabanka / TEB / ING (44%): 31,824 TL
Alternatif Bank / Türkiye Finans (45%): 32,547 TL
Anadolubank (46%): 33,271 TL
