Minimum wage rumors ahead of Cabinet Meeting: 'There will be no more...'

With only a few days left until 2025, the minimum wage hike has not yet been finalized. The fact that no figure emerged from the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which met on December 10, 16, and 19, has caused reactions among the public.

TÜRK-İŞ, representing the workers in the commission, announced the figure determined by minimum wage earners as 29,583 TL, based on 45 percent inflation plus a 20 percent welfare share, after no results came from the third meeting.

The figure in the minimum wage negotiations, which directly concerns nearly 7 million employees and indirectly the entire society, is expected to be resolved this week.

Anadolu Agency (AA) reported that the Minimum Wage Determination Commission will meet on December 24 (tomorrow) or December 25 (Wednesday).

Following TÜRK-İŞ's 29,583 TL minimum wage proposal, all eyes have turned to the employer side. It is known that TİSK, which is at the table representing the employers in the wage negotiations, does not look favorably upon TÜRK-İŞ's proposal.

THE FIGURE DISCUSSED IN THE AKP: IT WILL NOT BE LESS THAN 24 THOUSAND TL AND NOT MORE THAN 25 THOUSAND TL

As the final stretch for the minimum wage hike begins, the figure discussed in AKP corridors has emerged. According to the news on Halk TV, information obtained from AKP sources indicates that the minimum wage will not be less than 24,000 TL and will not be more than 25,000 TL.

On the other hand, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan will make a presentation regarding the minimum wage to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Cabinet Meeting today at 15:00.

WHEN WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE ANNOUNCED?

The new minimum wage is expected to be determined between December 23-27 and shared with the public by President Erdoğan.

MINIMUM WAGE HIKE ESTIMATES

Whether the minimum wage hike would be based on year-end inflation or target inflation has been debated for some time. Different scenarios are being discussed regarding the hike estimates.

In the markets, the probability of an increase in the 30-40 percent range for the minimum wage is being emphasized.

The prevailing view in the business world is that the minimum wage should be increased to the 22-23 thousand lira level.

Expectations in reports by foreign institutions have also shaped up in the 25-30 percent range.
