New promotion raise for retirees! SGK expert announces the expected figure

Negotiations have begun between the Social Security Institution (SGK) and banks regarding a new promotion protocol for retirees. It is stated that the promotion amounts, which were set between 8 and 12 thousand TL in 2023, could double with the new agreement.

With the updating of agreements previously made with 19 banks, significant increases in promotion amounts are expected as of March 2025.

HOW MUCH ARE RETIREE PROMOTION AMOUNTS CURRENTLY?

The highest promotion amount currently offered by banks to retirees is at the 21 thousand TL level. Previously, one of the public banks had made payments of up to 24 thousand TL with a double promotion campaign. However, it is stated that the current amounts remain insufficient when considering the recent raises made to pensions and the inflation rate.

SGK expert Emin Yılmaz, in his statement to Milliyet regarding the subject, said, “Promotion contracts made between retirees and banks are regulated within the framework of protocols signed between the SGK and banks.”

Yılmaz shared the following details in his statement:

"Retirees receive promotion payments according to their choice of bank from which they receive their pensions.

The SGK determines the base amounts for promotion payments.

The promotion amount can increase depending on the products and advantages offered by the bank.

HOW HAVE PROMOTION AMOUNTS CHANGED?

When we look at the history of promotion payments:

In the practice that started in 2017, amounts starting at 500 TL were increased gradually according to salary groups.

With the 2022 protocol, a promotion payment of 3,000 TL was made to those receiving a salary of up to 3,500 TL, and 5,000 TL to those receiving a salary of over 10,000 TL.

In 2023, these amounts were approximately doubled and set between 8 thousand and 12 thousand TL.

In 2025, these amounts are expected to increase even further."

HOW MUCH COULD THE 2025 RAISED PROMOTION AMOUNT BE?

Yılmaz expressed his expectations for 2025 with the following words:

“When we look at past years in retiree promotion payments, we see that the allowances generally double. I am of the opinion that the promotion ceiling amount for 2025 will reach from 12 thousand liras to 24 thousand liras.”

In this context, the new protocol is expected to come into effect in March.
