Will there be a natural gas price hike this winter? Minister Bayraktar explains
The new support model for electricity bills goes into effect as of February 1. Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that support will continue to be provided to low and medium-consumption subscribers, while announcing that high-consumption users will pay more. He also announced that there will be no price hikes for natural gas this winter.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar made important statements regarding the energy sector at the Anatolian Conversations program organized by the Anatolian Broadcasters Federation.
WHEN DOES THE NEW PERIOD FOR ELECTRICITY BILLS BEGIN?
Bayraktar stated that the new support model to be applied to electricity bills will go into effect as of February 1 and will be reflected on bills starting from March 1.
Emphasizing that the state provides significant support for electricity and natural gas bills, Minister Bayraktar shared the following information:
"The process we have been trying to explain for a few months in electricity begins as of February. We have an implementation that starts with the billing period beginning February 1 and will be reflected on bills on March 1."
Bayraktar noted that citizens were provided with subsidies of approximately 275 billion liras in 2023 and 400 billion liras in 2024. He stated that in the 2024 budget, over 230 billion liras were allocated for electricity and over 200 billion liras for natural gas support.
HIGH ELECTRICITY CONSUMERS WILL BE EXCLUDED FROM SUPPORT
According to the new support model, users exceeding the average monthly consumption of 200 kilowatt-hours will be excluded from the subsidy. Subscribers with a consumption of 417 kilowatt-hours and above will be completely outside the scope of support.
Stating that the regulation will affect approximately 1.2 million subscribers and cover 3 percent of the total 42 million subscribers, Bayraktar made the following statement:
"We are not touching 40 million of the 42 million subscribers. There is no price increase or change in their bills. There will be a reduction of around 30 billion liras in the state's subsidy."
HERE ARE THE NEW TARIFF RATES
Minister Bayraktar explained how the new tariff will be reflected on the bills of high-electricity-consuming subscribers as follows:
93 percent increase for those consuming 417 kilowatt-hours
89 percent increase for those consuming 450 kilowatt-hours
80 percent increase for those consuming 600 kilowatt-hours
69 percent increase for those consuming 1000 kilowatt-hours
58 percent increase for those consuming 5000 kilowatt-hours
56 percent increase for those consuming 30,000 kilowatt-hours
With this regulation, while low and medium-level electricity-consuming subscribers will continue to be supported, high-consumption users will pay more.
Will there be a hike in natural gas? Minister Bayraktar explained
Making important statements regarding natural gas prices as well, Minister Bayraktar announced that there will be no price hike for natural gas this winter.
"Probably nothing will change this winter. But we are thinking of something similar for natural gas. Perhaps there will be a regulation within 2025. It might be towards the end of the year in terms of affecting citizens."
