Will there be an additional raise for retirees? Critical statement from SGK expert
While SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees received a 15.75 percent raise and civil servant retirees received an 11.54 percent raise, the possibility of an additional raise for retirees has returned to the agenda. SGK expert Özgür Erdursun drew attention to the meeting to be held on January 13, recalled last year's surprise increase, and emphasized that permanent solutions such as an adjustment regulation are needed to improve retirement pensions. So, will there be an additional raise for 2025 retirement pensions? Here are the details...
According to the raise rates announced last week, SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees received a 15.75 percent inflation adjustment, while civil servants and civil servant retirees received an 11.54 percent raise.
With this increase, the lowest SSK and Bağ-Kur retirement pension rose to 14 thousand 469 liras.
However, the possibility of an additional raise has been opened for discussion due to the view that the increases made are insufficient.
WILL AN ADDITIONAL RAISE BE GIVEN TO RETIREES?
Social Security Expert Özgür Erdursun stated that retirees are struggling to meet their living conditions with their current salaries and reiterated the demand for an additional raise.
Erdursun said, “I think a welfare share should be added to retirement pensions, but this did not happen. Salaries are eroding more and more. The current calculation system should be reviewed and permanent solutions such as an adjustment regulation should be produced.”
Recalling that President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made an additional raise announcement on January 16 last year, Erdursun drew attention to January 13 this year.
Erdursun stated, “A regulation was made last year before the local elections. We do not know if a similar step will be taken this year, but retirees are in great anticipation.”
Erdursun said that not only raises but also structural reforms that will improve the living standards of retirees should be brought to the agenda. He emphasized that the injustice between salaries should be eliminated, especially with solutions such as an adjustment regulation. By saying, “Updating retirement pensions is now an inevitable necessity,” he pointed out that the reactions of retirees could increase.
