Geographical indication registration granted for 'Bosphorus Bluefish', known as the 'Pearl of the Bosphorus' and 'Queen of the Marmara'
Following an application by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, a geographical indication registration has been granted for the 'Bosphorus Bluefish' on behalf of the ITO.
Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) President Şekib Avdagiç announced that the 'Bosphorus Bluefish' has received geographical indication registration on behalf of the ITO.
In a statement on his social media account, Avdagiç said, "The registration of the Bosphorus Bluefish, an indispensable part of Istanbul's cuisine and maritime culture, will contribute to the cultural richness and brand value of the megacity."
"WE WILL CONTINUE OUR WORK WITH GREAT EXCITEMENT"
Stating that the preparation process for the "Bosphorus Bluefish" was completed as a result of efforts carried out with the support of the Istanbul Geographical Indication Consortium stakeholders, Avdagiç noted the following in the remainder of his message: "The geographical indication registration of the Bosphorus Bluefish has been realized before the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office on behalf of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce. Now, as the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, we will continue our work towards the identification and registration of Istanbul's potential products with geographical indications with even greater excitement."
It is also known that citizens have given the bluefish the names "Pearl of the Bosphorus" and "Queen of the Marmara".
