Revenue Administration announces 6.5 lira SCT hike on cigarettes: Here are the new cigarette prices

In the statement made by the GİB, it was noted that in accordance with the Special Consumption Tax Law, the SCT amounts for fuel and non-fuel petroleum products, as well as alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, are adjusted every 6 months based on the D-PPI. It was recalled that the SCT amounts for these products are increased in January and July by the rate of change in the D-PPI announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) over the last 6 months, effective from the day of the announcement of this change.

The statement, which expressed that the updated specific SCT amounts are published on the Revenue Administration's website shortly after the announcement of the TÜİK data on January 3 and July 3 each year, noted that within this framework, the domestic producer price increase for the 6-month period (January-June) of 2024 was 19.49 percent, and that a 19.49 percent increase was applied to the SCT amounts of petroleum products, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products as of the beginning of January 2024.

The statement, which included that before the update, an SCT of 33.3 lira was applied to 1 pack of cigarettes, 7.78 lira to beer, 38.24 lira to wine, 10.63 lira per degree of alcohol per liter for high-alcohol beverages, 9.45 lira for gasoline, 8.86 lira for diesel, and 7.26 lira for LPG, used the following expression: "As a result, according to the 6-month domestic producer price increase of 19.49 percent in the last 6 months, there has been an SCT increase of 6.49 lira per pack of cigarettes, 1.51 lira for beer, 7.45 lira for wine, 2.06 lira per degree of alcohol per liter for high-alcohol beverages, 1.84 lira for gasoline, 1.72 lira for diesel, and 1.41 lira for LPG."

The new specific SCT amounts have been published on the GİB's website.
