Grocery bags to be sold at a higher price starting in the new year
In order to prevent plastic-related waste pollution, the Ministry made plastic bags subject to a fee as of January 1, 2019. The bags, which have cost 25 kurus for a long time, will see a price increase with the new year.
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change implemented in 2019,the price of plastic bags, which began to be sold for 25 kurus,has been set at 1 lira starting from January 1, 2026.
Instead of single-useplastic bags, a transition to multi-usecarrying equipment isencouragingthe use of such practices has contributed to the efficient use of resources and zero-waste targets.
In order to determine the plastic bag fee to be applied in the new year, relevant public institutions and organizations, as well as representatives of associations and federations operating in the sector,participatedin the "Packaging Commission-Plastic Bag Subcommittee Meeting" held on November 12,which was organized.
As a result of the meeting,the participants' opinionsTakingviews and suggestions into consideration,it was decided that the base fee to be applied to plastic bags in 2026will be 1 lira per unit, including taxes.
The decision will beeffective as of January 1, 2026.
