How did the stock market start the first trading day of the week? (April 22, 2024)

The stock market started the week with an increase.

At the opening, the BIST 100 index gained 101.28 points and 1.04 percent compared to the previous close, rising to 9,794.74 points.

The banking index recorded an increase of 1.07 percent and the holding index rose by 0.79 percent. Among sector indices, stone and soil was the top gainer with 1.98 percent, while the only decliner was securities investment trusts with 0.17 percent.

On Friday, the BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul followed a bullish trend and completed the day with a 1.77 percent gain at 9,693.46 points.

Analysts stated that uncertainties regarding when the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will begin interest rate cuts continue to affect asset prices in global equity markets, and that in addition to a busy data agenda this week, the expected earnings reports of major US technology companies have also become the focus of investors.
