Huge price hikes coming for computers!

Turkey entered 2024 with a barrage of price hikes. The exchange rate breaking record after record is being reflected in price increases, primarily for technological products.

While there is talk of even larger price hikes across the board following the local elections on March 31, 2024, it has been learned that computer prices will also see increases this year.

HP Turkey General Manager Serdar Urçar, representing the American computer, printer, and printing systems and hardware manufacturer, made assessments regarding the sector. 

According to a report in Birgün; Urçar, who participated in the Gündem Teknoloji program, provided the information: “While the global personal computer market shrank by 14 percent, the sector grew in Turkey. The consumer computer market grew by 36 percent, and the corporate computer market grew by 16 percent. The global computer market reached a size of 225 billion dollars. There is a 2.5 billion dollar personal computer market in Turkey, and it has reached a volume of 3 million units.”

Speaking about price trends in consumer electronics, Serdar Urçar said, “Artificial intelligence is a mega trend. We are talking about generative AI, which is the factor driving the entire industry. We expect generative AI to provide significant growth in personal computers. Due to additional fiscal tightening measures following the elections this year, a contraction of between 5 and 10 percent is expected in the market, on top of the growth achieved in Turkey last year. We expect prices to remain more stable on the printer side.”

Serdar Urçar stated, “A price increase of around 25 percent in TL terms is expected for computers this year. We have an artificial intelligence mission. On the printer side, we do not expect high price increases. Prices will remain stable.”
