Hundreds of thousands of retirements cancelled, pensions clawed back

The Social Security Institution (SSI) continues its efforts regarding the increasing number of "fake insurance" incidents in recent years. The institution has opened the files of many individuals suspected of irregularities in retirement procedures, particularly those dating after 2016. Within the scope of the investigations, comprehensive reviews are being conducted, especially targeting individuals who retired by paying premiums through shell companies or who were granted monthly pensions based on suspicious medical reports.

SHELL COMPANIES UNDER SCRUTINY

During the ongoing checks, notifications are primarily sent to individuals determined to have paid insurance premiums through shell companies. These notifications state that individuals must go to their local SSI district center to present their defense, with a three-business-day deadline provided for this purpose.

REPAYMENT TERMS FOR IRREGULARITIES ARE CLEAR

If the investigations reveal that the irregularity was caused by the citizen, the SSI collects all paid pensions with interest, retroactive to ten years. In cases where the error originated from the institution, a five-year interest-free repayment process is applied. In an operation carried out in Aydın last year, known publicly as the "Joker Gang" operation, the retirement status of hundreds of people was cancelled under this scope.

WARNING FROM EXPERTS: RETIREMENT CAN BE CANCELLED RETROACTIVELY

According to a report by Birgün, social security expert Özgür Erdursun stated that the SSI has been continuing its inspections without interruption for a long time and provided the following information:

“There are those who become business partners and show themselves as insured employees at another workplace in order to retire through the SSK (Social Security Organization). This path is preferred because it is easier to retire through the SSK. Retirement is obtained. However, it can be cancelled later.”

HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF RETIREMENTS CANCELLED

Following the audits and checks, the retirement rights of hundreds of thousands of people have been terminated to date, and the pensions provided have been clawed back. SSI officials report that inspections against attempts at fake insurance will continue to increase.
