IMF updates its outlook for the Turkish and global economy! A critical warning

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has updated its 2025 growth forecast for the Turkish economy to 2.7 percent in its latest World Economic Outlook report. The growth expectation for 2026 remained unchanged at 3.2 percent. In the forecasts made in January, Turkey was projected to grow by 2.6 percent in 2025 and 3.2 percent in 2026.

The inflation rate in Turkey is estimated at 35.9 percent for 2025 and 22.8 percent for 2026. The unemployment rate is projected to be 9.4 percent in 2025 and 9.2 percent in 2026. The current account deficit as a percentage of GDP was calculated at -1.2 percent for both years.

In the global economic assessments, uncertainties created by US tariffs and changes in the trade system stood out. While the global growth forecast for 2025 was lowered from 3.3 percent to 2.8 percent, it was kept steady at 3 percent for 2026.

For the US economy, the 2025 growth forecast was reduced from 2.7 percent to 1.8 percent, and for 2026, it was lowered from 2.1 percent to 1.7 percent. In the Eurozone, the growth expectation for 2025 was cut from 1 percent to 0.8 percent, and for 2026, it was reduced from 1.4 percent to 1.2 percent. Similar downward revisions were made for countries such as Germany, France, Italy, and the UK.

In Asia, Japan's 2025 growth forecast was lowered from 1.1 percent to 0.6 percent, and for 2026, it was reduced from 0.8 percent to 0.6 percent. China's growth expectation for 2025 was lowered from 4.6 percent to 4 percent, and for 2026, it was reduced from 4.5 percent to 4 percent.

Similar revisions were also made for India and Russia.
