Important statement from Mehmet Şimşek regarding credit cards

During a closed-door dinner with representatives of the business and finance world three days ago, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek made important statements on various topics.

Nedim Türkmen from Sözcü newspaper shared the important responses given by Minister Şimşek at the meeting in his column today.

Türkmen particularly drew attention to a question regarding credit card installment limitations among the answers Minister Şimşek gave to questions directed at him during the meeting.

Şimşek's response, "We are the only country in the world that applies installments to credit cards, and these practices cause citizens to spend more than their income. This is not a good thing," reflects a new perspective on credit card practices.

ADDITIONAL MEASURES MAY BE TAKEN

On the other hand, it was determined that the Presidential 2024 Annual Program includes the introduction of measures for installment purchases with credit cards.

In the program, under the statement, "Practices that will prevent consumption increases that disrupt economic balances and fuel inflation will be implemented," it was emphasized that elements such as installment periods for goods and services purchases and cash withdrawals made with credit cards will be analyzed in line with policies aimed at reducing inflation and that additional measures may be taken.

NEW POLICIES ARE COMING

These developments show that the economic management led by Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek is developing new policies regarding credit card usage in order to protect economic balances. The goal of controlling inflation by reviewing installment periods for expenditures made with credit cards may play an important role in economic policy developments in the coming period.
