Intense interest follows drop in fish prices
The affordability of fish prices in Zonguldak has led to strong interest from citizens.
Fish prices at stalls in Zonguldak have begun to drop. Anchovies were sold for 60 TL and horse mackerel for 50 TL at the stalls. Seeing that the fish prices were affordable, citizens showed interest in the stalls. The reasonable prices pleased both the citizens and the tradespeople.
Fisherman Zeki Beybeyoğlu said, "Currently, anchovies are fluctuating between 50-60 TL. Our horse mackerel is 50 TL. We have been selling our horse mackerel for 50 TL for a month and a half to two months. It is abundant, meaning we have plenty of horse mackerel. Local anchovies are also abundant this year. Currently, there is no bluefish at all. There is an abundance of horse mackerel, whiting, and anchovies. Prices are reasonable. When it is abundant, it is cheap; when it is scarce, it is expensive. Currently, there is horse mackerel. Anchovies are not extremely abundant, but they are available. There is no such thing as hope left. Whatever comes out, we give that to our public. We accept whatever God provides for us."
Stating that prices could drop if fish becomes more abundant, Beybeyoğlu added, "If it becomes abundant, it could fall below these prices. For example, when anchovies were very abundant, we sold them for 35 TL, 25 TL. But currently, it is going at a normal rate."
