The 6-month and 6,000-kilometer rule, which was implemented approximately 2.5 years ago, was put into effect to prevent price increases in the second-hand automobile market and to stop vehicles from being used as investment tools.

Under this requirement, individual or corporate sellers were required to own and use their vehicles for 6 months and cover 6,000 kilometers before they could sell them. However, the regulation did not create the expected effect in the sector and brought various debates with it.

According to a report by Show TV, it is suggested that this practice could be terminated as of January 1, 2025. Although no official statement has been made on the matter yet, industry representatives are closely following the development.

Car dealers argue that the regulation has negatively affected their sales and led buyers to turn to new vehicles.

One car dealer stated, “Due to the regulation, business in the second-hand market has come to a standstill. When buyers could not find vehicles here, they turned to new vehicles. This situation has victimized both us and the buyers. We expect the practice to be lifted as of January 1.”

Buyers, on the other hand, have lost interest in the second-hand vehicle market due to high prices. This stagnation in the market has caused losses for dealers while leading to an increase in demand for new vehicles.
