ITO announces July inflation: Prices in Istanbul rise again
According to ITO data, prices in Istanbul increased by 2.06 percent monthly in July. The highest monthly increase was seen in health expenditures at 9.77 percent.
The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) has announced the Istanbul Consumer Price Index data for July 2026. Accordingly, consumer prices in the city rose by 2.06 percent compared to the previous month. Annual inflation was recorded at 35.20 percent.
According to ITO data, prices in Istanbul increased by 21.56 percent compared to the end of the year. The increase based on 12-month averages was calculated at 37.73 percent.
In July, the highest monthly increase among expenditure groups was seen in health. While health expenditures rose by 9.77 percent, there was an increase of 4.42 percent in transportation, 3.69 percent in communication, and 2.50 percent in recreation and culture.
An increase of 2.01 percent was recorded in housing expenditures, 1.60 percent in household goods, 1.54 percent in restaurants and hotels, and 1.47 percent in education. Prices in food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 1.30 percent, in the miscellaneous goods and services group by 1.03 percent, and in alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.77 percent.
The only main expenditure group where prices declined in July was clothing and footwear. Prices in this group fell by 0.66 percent on a monthly basis.
On an annual basis, the highest increase was measured in the education group at 58.41 percent. While the annual increase in housing reached 50.60 percent, an increase of 38.84 percent was seen in health, 38.16 percent in food and non-alcoholic beverages, and 34.84 percent in restaurants and hotels.
ITO reported that public-sector-driven price changes in certain products and services within the health, transportation, and communication groups were influential in the price movements in July. Seasonal effects on the food side, and downward price movements in clothing and footwear, were reflected in the index.
