January housing sales figures announced

According to data released by TUIK, while there was a general decline in housing and workplace sales in January, mortgage-backed sales recorded an increase in both sectors; meanwhile, housing sales to foreigners declined.

January housing sales figures announced

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) has shared the Housing and Workplace Sales Statistics for January with the public.

FIRST-HAND AND SECOND-HAND HOUSING SALES OUTLOOK

In January, first-hand housing sales across Turkey were recorded at 34 thousand 69, a decrease of 2.1 percent compared to the same period last year. Second-hand housing sales decreased by 5.9 percent to 77 thousand 411. The share of first-hand housing in total sales was calculated at 30.6 percent, while the share of second-hand housing was 69.4 percent.

HOUSING SALES BY FINANCING TYPE

Mortgage-backed housing sales increased by 15.7 percent on an annual basis in January, reaching 20 thousand 263. In the same period, other types of sales decreased by 8.3 percent to 91 thousand 217. The ratio of mortgage-backed sales within total housing sales was 18.2 percent, while other sales accounted for 81.8 percent.

According to calendar-adjusted data, first-hand housing sales increased by 4.2 percent on an annual basis, while second-hand sales declined by 0.1 percent. In seasonally and calendar-adjusted series, first-hand sales decreased by 6.3 percent and second-hand sales by 4.7 percent compared to the previous month.

HOUSING SALES TO FOREIGNERS

Housing sales to foreign nationals were recorded at 1 thousand 306 in January, a 20.8 percent decrease on an annual basis. The share of these sales in total housing sales was 1.2 percent.

By country of citizenship, the highest number of housing sales was made to citizens of the Russian Federation with 219 units. This country was followed by Iran with 118 sales and Ukraine with 77 sales.

CURRENT STATUS OF WORKPLACE SALES

In January, first-hand workplace sales decreased by 9.2 percent compared to the same month last year, totaling 3 thousand 444. Second-hand workplace sales decreased by 14.5 percent to 9 thousand 823.

While mortgage-backed workplace sales increased by 73 percent to 576 in the same period, other workplace sales were recorded at 12 thousand 691, a decrease of 15.1 percent.

According to calendar-adjusted series, first-hand workplace sales declined by 3.4 percent and second-hand sales by 9.5 percent on an annual basis. According to seasonally and calendar-adjusted data, first-hand workplace sales decreased by 12.8 percent and second-hand sales by 5.6 percent compared to the previous month.
