Lemon exports to be temporarily suspended

The Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry have signed off on an important decision regarding lemon exports. As a result of the evaluations, lemon exports will be temporarily suspended starting April 8.

In a statement made by the ministry, it was noted that the supply-demand balance and price movements of agricultural products and foodstuffs are being closely monitored to ensure food supply security in the domestic market. It was stated that measures regarding foreign trade are implemented when deemed necessary to protect domestic production, support producers, and prevent speculative price increases in the market.

Recent frost events in key production regions, particularly Adana, Mersin, and Hatay, were among the reasons behind this decision. Following joint efforts with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, it was deemed appropriate to take this measure to prevent potential negative impacts.

With the decision taken, lemon exports will be temporarily suspended as of April 8. Officials stated that market conditions will be monitored carefully and that additional measures will be evaluated if necessary.

The Ministry of Trade announced that it will continue to work in cooperation with all relevant public and private sector institutions, primarily the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, in the coming period, and will continue to resolutely implement all necessary policy tools to ensure food supply and price stability.
