Local producer drinks the wine he sold for 260 liras at a restaurant for 3,300 liras: 'Nowhere else in the world...'

In Turkey, rising inflation and distorted pricing continue to make their impact felt more each day.

Ekonomim columnist Vahap Munyar, in his article today titled "We drank the wine we sell for 260 liras at a restaurant for 3,300 liras", shared the bill that Selim Zafer Ellialtı, founder of Suvla Wines, and his wife Pınar Ellialtı paid during a dinner.

THEY PAID 3,300 LIRAS FOR A 260 LIRA WINE

The relevant section of Munyar's article is as follows:

"He ordered one of the wines they produce themselves at the restaurant they went to.

At the end of the meal, he asked for the bill. He looked at the itemized bill and was surprised to see the price of his own wine at the restaurant:

3,300 liras…

He did not object; he paid the bill. However, the 3,300 liras he paid for his own wine bothered him. The next morning, he gave the name of the restaurant to his marketing team:

Take a look, for how much did we sell our “K………..” wine to that restaurant?

The team reported the information shortly after:

11-12 TIMES ADDED TO THE PURCHASE COST

Our selling price for the wine you mentioned to that restaurant appears to be 260 liras.

He sighed and lamented:

High inflation has severely distorted pricing behaviors. We understood that. However, adding 11-12 times the purchase cost to a bottle of wine is something that is not seen anywhere else in the world..."
