It has been claimed that Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, who has frequently emphasized austerity in the public sector since taking office, will first liquidate official vehicles.

According to a report by the newspaper Türkiye, known for its proximity to the government, an inventory of all vehicles registered to public institutions has been taken, and a list of those to be liquidated has been prepared.

It is alleged that, under Şimşek's instruction, 500 vehicles used by public institutions were put up for sale in the first phase, and a liquidation list for 1,000 vehicles has been prepared for the second phase. The report states that sources from the Ministry of Finance indicated that the sale and liquidation of public vehicles will not be limited to these numbers and will continue in stages.

STRICT RULES WILL BE APPLIED

The revenue generated from the sale of official vehicles will be transferred to the Treasury. It has been learned that strict rules will be applied in cases of new vehicle purchases and leasing.

In cases of urgent need, public institutions will be able to purchase or lease new vehicles only after selling the ones they currently possess. Except for those used in the fields of security and health, no increase in the number of vehicles in the public sector will be permitted. Ending vehicle leasing in stages is also on the agenda. Discussions are underway to avoid renewing contracts for vehicles whose leasing agreements have expired.

STAFF ELIGIBLE FOR OFFICIAL VEHICLES TO BE REDETERMINED

Furthermore, it was stated that restrictions will be imposed on the use of official vehicles in the public sector. The staff eligible to use official vehicles will be redetermined. In the upper echelons of the bureaucracy, the practice of providing official vehicles for certain positions will be terminated. A list of vehicles directly allocated to offices will also be determined, and new planning will be carried out.

115 THOUSAND VEHICLES EXIST

According to data from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, there are 115 thousand 904 vehicles owned by public administrations under the central government. Of these vehicles, 72 thousand 373 are used for defense and security, 9,973 for health, 8,136 for agriculture and forestry, 7,579 for education, 4,772 for justice, and 13 thousand 71 for other administrative services.

TRANSPORTATION CARDS TO BE GIVEN TO PERSONNEL INSTEAD OF SHUTTLE BUSES

Meanwhile, it is stated that non-essential shuttle buses used by public personnel will be canceled, and it is planned to provide transportation cards to personnel instead. On the other hand, planning is underway for cuts to be made in every area in the public sector, from the purchase of fixtures and stationery expenses to representation, ceremony, and hospitality expenses, as well as personnel expenditures. It was stated that the new practices will begin within a few days.
