Meters-long 'cheap baklava' queue forms in Şirinevler: 'We come for the nostalgia'

In Şirinevler, citizens wanting to buy affordable baklava have to wait in long queues for up to 1 hour.

Walnut baklava is sold for 110 liras per kilogram, while pistachio baklava is sold for 210 liras per kilogram.

'WE COME FOR THE NOSTALGIA'

A business employee gave cardboard to citizens waiting to buy baklava to protect them from the sun. Güngör Seven, who was waiting to buy affordable baklava, said, “I am going to buy baklava; we come for the nostalgia, we had some time. I buy it sometimes, if I'm not passing by, I buy it from somewhere else. I will buy up to 4 kilograms, I will get it at an affordable price.”

'I COME EVERY HOLIDAY'

Stating that he buys his baklava from here every year, Cemal Kaya said, “We came to buy cheap baklava. I come every holiday, the price is affordable. Last year the price was 85 TL, I don't know the current price. I am coming from Bahçelievler, I will buy 3 kilograms for the holiday.”

'WE EARN THROUGH CIRCULATION'

Business manager Adil İpekli, who said they are happy that citizens like the baklava, stated, “Thank God, we have reached another holiday eve. Our valued customers did not leave us alone, they loved us, embraced us, and they are coming. We are trying to respond to their demands as quickly as we can. We are actually in this position because it is both affordable compared to the market and because we have not compromised our quality; we are able to carry out both together. We earn through circulation. If there is no volume, it doesn't mean anything to us. We are trying to continue with very low profit margins.”
