Welfare share proposal from MHP: Additional support for minimum wage earners and retirees

As the new year approaches, millions of employees and retirees have turned their eyes and ears to the salary increase rates they will receive.

According to a report by the Türkiye newspaper, which is known for its proximity to the government, a proposal for a welfare share has come to the AKP from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), a partner in the People's Alliance.

MHP Konya Deputy Mustafa Kalaycı stated that the existence of differences in administrative, financial, and social rights among employees due to their different statuses, despite performing the same work in the same places and services in the public sector, negatively affects personnel motivation.

Kalaycı said, “It is necessary to create a more efficient public personnel system that will be based on competence and merit in the public sector, eliminate the confusion of status and employment, ensure wage justice, provide quality service to society, and have a high ability to adapt to changing conditions.”

"PROVIDE HOUSING AND TRANSPORTATION SUPPORT TO MINIMUM WAGE EARNERS"

Underlining that the living conditions of employees should be taken into account for the 2025 minimum wage increase, Kalaycı demanded that the net minimum wage be raised above the hunger threshold.

Requesting that transportation and housing support be provided to minimum wage earners in metropolitan cities, Kalaycı also expressed the following views regarding the salaries of public employees and retirees:

"The salaries of public employees increased by an average of 129 percent in 2023 and 78.07 percent in 2024. In addition to the increases determined by collective bargaining, a welfare share was also provided in 2023 and in January 2024. It would be appropriate to provide an additional welfare share for the increases in 2025. Article 55 of Law No. 5510 stipulates that the income and pensions linked according to this law shall be determined by increasing them by the CPI change rate compared to the previous six-month period, effective from the payment dates of January and July of each year. Again, we are of the opinion that an additional welfare share should be provided in 2025 in addition to this increase to be made for our SSK and BAĞ-KUR retirees."
