Millions were waiting for this: Bad news for millions of retirees before the raise

Retired citizens are eagerly awaiting the raise rate that will be applied to their pensions in July. One of the most discussed topics in the upcoming raise period was whether the "welfare share" practice would be implemented. According to the latest information obtained, expectations regarding the addition of a welfare share this year seem unlikely to be met.

RAISE RATE TO BE CLARIFIED ON JULY 3

With the inflation data for June to be announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) on July 3, 2026, the inflation rate for the first six months will become clear. Following this data, the increase rate for pensions will be finalized. After the regulation made last year, the lowest pension for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees was set at the level of 20 thousand TL as of January 1, 2026.

LEGAL REGULATION MAY BE REQUIRED FOR THE LOWEST PENSION

It is stated that a legal change may be required to determine the increase rate for pensions. In particular, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) needs to make a new regulation to increase the lowest salaries.

WHICH CRITERION WILL BE TAKEN AS THE BASIS FOR THE RAISE RATE?

At the same time, it is emphasized that the raise rates for civil servant retirees and SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees may differ. Officials state that inflation rates will be taken as the basis, and that the increase made for civil servant retirees is mostly accepted as the fundamental criterion for the raise. However, it was conveyed that whichever raise rate is higher will be taken as the basis.

EXPECTATION FOR WELFARE SHARE NOT MET

CNN Türk Reporter Melike Görür Demirkıran used the following expressions regarding the subject during a live broadcast:

"A raise at the rate of inflation will be applied to pensions in July. It was wondered whether a welfare share would be added to this rate. According to the information obtained, it is not expected that a welfare share will be added".
