'Minimum wage' adjustment for meal cards

The amendment to the Social Insurance Transactions Regulation has been published in the Official Gazette. Accordingly, meal cards and vouchers have been included in meal allowance payments for workplaces where meals are not provided.

MINIMUM WAGE CALCULATION CHANGED

With the new regulation, instead of converting a daily minimum wage amount into a meal allowance based on a set rate, the daily meal allowance will be taken as the basis for calculating the meal cost.

The previous article contained the following expressions: "Provided that no meals are provided at the workplace or its premises, any payments made to the insured or to third parties for the insured under the name of meal allowance, up to the amount found by multiplying the rate of the daily minimum wage determined by the Institution's Board of Directors by the number of days actually worked."

The new article contains the following expressions: "In cases where meals are not provided at the workplace or its premises, if the benefits provided to the insured by providing meals are provided in cash or through means such as meal cards/vouchers/coupons that can be used outside of receiving meal services, the portion not exceeding the amount determined by the Institution's Board of Directors for the daily meal cost for the days actually worked, multiplied by the number of days actually worked."

TO TAKE EFFECT ON JANUARY 1

The regulation published in the Official Gazette will enter into force on January 1, 2025.
