Minimum wage forecast from Social Security expert Özgür Erdursun: It will reach its highest level in dollar terms

The first meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission has taken place.

While no specific figure was mentioned at the meeting, which concerns millions of employees, TÜRK-İŞ Vice President Ramazan Ağar stated, "Today, the eyes and ears of millions were on today's meeting. No wage figures were discussed in our meetings today. We will reconvene on Monday at 13:30. As TÜRK-İŞ, we do not have the opportunity to state a wage; if we state a wage, we will be tied down. A wage proposal must come from the employer side for us to evaluate it. There is no point in stating a wage right now."

MINIMUM WAGE FORECAST FROM ÖZGÜR ERDURSUN

While all eyes are on the second meeting on December 18 for the minimum wage hike, Social Security expert Özgür Erdursun suggested that with the upcoming increase, the minimum wage will exceed 17,000 TL.

Participating in a live broadcast on Halk TV, Erdursun said, "The minimum wage will reach its highest level in dollar terms. It will exceed 580 dollars."

Erdursun continued his remarks as follows;

"In this period, the minimum wage will not be increased only once a year. In a period where inflation is this high, this would not be very possible. We currently do not know what the 2024 inflation will be. As we head toward the elections, the government has gained an advantage. Although it may seem like a difficult process for the government, it is actually an opportunity period. Increasing salaries while people are in economic distress works to the government's benefit. Citizens, of course, cannot know what will happen after the election. There could be a 50 percent increase in the minimum wage, perhaps slightly more. The government will also go to the elections by giving a raise to retirees. If they cannot turn this into an opportunity, the opposition will gain an advantage. We are living through such a period."
