Minimum wage forecast from TÜRMOB President Emre Kartaloğlu

Emre Kartaloğlu, President of the Union of Chambers of Certified Public Accountants of Turkey (TÜRMOB), stated that there will be a minimum wage update and said, "My forecast is that there will be an increase of around 40-50 percent in the minimum wage."

Kartaloğlu, who was in Ordu as part of various programs, met with journalists at a restaurant.

Reminding that the minimum wage is on the agenda, Kartaloğlu said that there are discussions regarding this issue in Ankara.

"THERE WILL BE AN INCREASE OF AROUND 40-50 PERCENT"

Stating that discussions are ongoing at the table and negotiations are continuing, Kartaloğlu said, "A minimum wage update will be made. My forecast is that there will be an increase of around 40-50 percent in the minimum wage. Of course, the purchasing power of most people with fixed incomes in our country has decreased significantly. We are all experiencing and seeing this. This is caused by inflation."

Touching upon accounting fees, Kartaloğlu noted the following:

"When we take 2017 as a base, the minimum wage has increased approximately 7-fold. When we look at inflation, it has increased 7-8 fold. In this context, we have an accounting fee tariff published with the approval of our Ministry. It has only increased 2.61-fold in this period. Therefore, we, the accounting and professional community, the certified public accountants, have lost a lot and become much poorer during this process. We are working on an update to our fee tariff to compensate for this. We are conducting this work together with the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. It needs to be published after their approval. I anticipate that we will receive an increase that will compensate for our losses as well."
