Minister Bayraktar's statement on electricity and natural gas price hikes
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced that they do not expect any increases in electricity and natural gas prices until April.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktarresponded to questions regarding whether there would be price hikes for electricity and natural gas.
Bayraktar stated, "Our goal is to avoid passing on the incurred costs to our citizens as much as possible. In this sense, we hope to get through the winter without any price increases or hikes for households in natural gas and electricity. We do not foresee any increases for households until April." he said.
NEW ERA IN ELECTRICITY
Minister Bayraktar was also asked about the regulation regarding citizens whose annual consumption exceeds 5,000 kilowatt-hours being ineligible for electricity subsidies, as well as the criticisms coming from the opposition.
Bayraktar replied, "What the opposition says is, as always, based on falsehoods and distortion... 1.2 million out of 42 million subscribers will be affected by this regulation. Nothing will change in the lives of the remaining 40 million 800 thousand subscribers. Subscribers who exceed 5,000 kilowatt-hours of consumption in 2024 will be removed from the support scope starting in February." he said.
A CRITICAL YEAR FOR AKKUYU
Stating that the commissioning of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant has been delayed due to the Russia-Ukraine war, Minister Bayraktar noted that the supply of some equipment was blocked by European countries.
Emphasizing that the supply was secured through other channels, Bayraktar said that significant steps will be seen at Akkuyu in 2025.
Bayraktar stated, "2025 is very critical for us; I can say it is the most critical year for the first reactor of Akkuyu to produce electricity, even if just for testing purposes. Our goal is to complete this project entirely as soon as possible with all 4 reactors."
