Most recently, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek announced the number of taxpayers who filed income tax returns.
Şimşek stated the following:
"WE ARE DETERMINED TO COMBAT THE INFORMAL ECONOMY"
"In 2023, 1.8 million of our taxpayers who earned income from rent, wages, capital investment income, and other earnings, along with 2.6 million of our taxpayers with commercial, agricultural, or self-employment income, filed income tax returns.
We thank all our taxpayers who filed their returns on time.
So far, we have identified more than 400 thousand taxpayers who earned income but did not file a return. We invite our taxpayers who have not filed returns to take advantage of the remorse provision to avoid paying penalties.
We are determined to combat the informal economy for the sake of fair competition and fiscal discipline."
