Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated in his remarks regarding recent developments in the fund market that there is no widespread systemic risk.
Speaking on NTV, Şimşek expressed that the market volatility is caused by credit and liquidity problems observed in a limited number of funds. Şimşek noted that the measures taken are sufficient at the current stage.
Reminding that the Financial Stability Committee met yesterday, Şimşek emphasized that the economic management is in constant consultation to prevent the formation of systemic risk in the markets.
What has been experienced in the markets as of yesterday is essentially a credit and liquidity problem in a limited number of funds. There is no widespread systemic risk. There is no structural problem in the stock exchange or the fund market.
Stating that hedge funds are an area where qualified investors invest and can be described as "hedge funds" globally, Şimşek noted that regulations in this area are more flexible compared to other fund types.
Şimşek stated that the hedge fund sector has grown since it began trading on TEFAS in 2019, noting that there are a total of 2,038 funds in Turkey, and 131 of them are currently on the agenda within the scope of recent developments.
