Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek made assessments regarding the Turkish economy. Discussing the changes they aim to implement, Şimşek stated that important decisions regarding the informal economy will be put into practice.
Highlights from Şimşek's statements while speaking to CNN TÜRK:
"We will review expenditures. We will direct them toward more productive and efficient areas. We will fight against informality. We are making very serious regulations. It will be a pinpoint strike.
By fighting against informality, we will bring the budget deficit under control in a more permanent way. Informality means violating rights.
"IT WILL NOTIFY US"
There are speculations deliberately produced before the election. Starting from June, a new generation of POS machines will be installed. For example, a very busy restaurant in any city. Throughout the day, receipts with 1 percent VAT, like for bread or water, have been issued. This machine will notify us.
RENTAL AGREEMENTS
Our intention is to have all rental agreements done via e-Devlet from now on. In the last 2 months, we knocked on more than 420 thousand doors. We compared the information we have with the actual situation. Rental tax returns must be filed by the end of this month.
Unfortunately, there is an effort by some circles to create uncertainty and distrust, especially for the post-election period. It has reached such a point with very exaggerated expressions. We will not do anything regarding the post-election period that we have not foreseen in our medium-term program.
Our stance regarding taxes is clear. We will not increase corporate tax. We will not increase income tax. We will not increase general VAT rates. We had already stated that if there are exemptions or reduced rates, we would review them. An additional rate for Motor Vehicles is not on our agenda."
