Ministry of Trade statement on 'exports to Israel'

The Ministry of Trade has issued a statement regarding claims that exports to Israel have increased. It was stated that the claims do not reflect the truth. It was pointed out that exports destined for the Palestinian region also pass through Israeli customs. The Ministry stated, "Turkey's foreign trade with Israel fell by 45 percent in the October-December period compared to the previous year."

The statement, which pointed out that trade with Israel is not trade destined for the Jewish region of the country, used the following expressions: "It is trade that also goes to the 2.2 million Palestinians who are citizens in Israel, as well as the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza, which are under Israeli occupation. All goods destined for the Palestinian region are forced to pass through Israeli customs and ports under the name of Israel."

According to the information provided in the statement, it was stated that the total Turkey-Israel trade for the October-December period of 2022 was 2 billion 320 million dollars, and this figure decreased by 45 percent in the same period of 2023 to 1 billion 280 million dollars.

In the specified approximately 3-month period of 2022, Turkey's exports to Israel amounted to 1 billion 606 million dollars, and its imports from that country were 714 million dollars.

In the same period of last year, trade was recorded at 980 million dollars in exports, a 39 percent decrease, and 300 million dollars in imports, a 58 percent decrease.
