Motorcycle sales in Turkey hit a record: Over 300 thousand registrations in 2023

The number of motorcycles registered for traffic during the summer months reached a record level this year. The 300 thousand motorcycles recorded in 2023 represent nearly a 6-fold increase in sales compared to the last 10 years, while the total number of registered motorcycles in traffic has approached 6 million.

Motorcycle sales in Turkey hit a record: Over 300 thousand registrations in 2023

When TÜİK data is examined, a significant increase was observed in the number of motorcycles registered for traffic during the summer months of 2023 (June, July, and August). This year, a total of 300 thousand 338 motorcycles were registered. This figure represents an approximately 5-fold increase compared to the 60 thousand 382 motorcycle registrations in 2015.

Especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, motorcycle sales gained momentum due to the rise in courier services and users' search for time and fuel savings. While 120 thousand 662 motorcycles were registered in the summer of 2022, this number nearly doubled in 2023, reaching over 300 thousand. For the year 2024, projections indicate that 345 thousand 235 motorcycle registrations will be reached.

As of August 2023, the number of motor land vehicles in Turkey reached 30 million 469 thousand 319. Of these vehicles, 15 million 301 thousand 404 are automobiles, and 5 million 878 thousand 271 are motorcycles.

Within the last 10 years, it is observed that the number of motorcycles registered for traffic during the summer months has increased approximately 6-fold. This situation demonstrates the rising popularity of motorcycle usage in Turkey and changing transportation habits.
