Murat Muratoğlu: We've burned the economy, there's no turning back
Sözcü columnist Murat Muratoğlu evaluated the Turkish economy in his article titled "We've burned the economy, there's no turning back."
Sözcü columnist Murat Muratoğlu argued that balance has long been lost in the Turkish economy, asking, "The economy is a mechanism with such delicate balances that every move you make triggers another development. The 'we are heading for the better' statements, blowing like a gentle breeze, brought me some relief. I don't want to spoil this fantasy, but what are we going to do about the minor hitches?"
Muratoğlu used the following expressions in his article:
"How simple the economy seemed to us... It consisted only of foreign exchange, interest rates, and inflation... They lowered these artificially... What happened? They all skyrocketed and took off... This time, there was no need to even blame 'foreign powers.' That is the kind of strange country Turkey has become.
With this mindset, this is the best place Turkey could possibly reach... They say; Turkey is not the same as it was 20 years ago... How could it be? Of course, it wouldn't be. Technology has advanced, the world has changed. It's not like Turkey is going to stand still! Countries that were far behind us have overtaken us. Do they have geniuses managing their economies? No! They are just following the rules. We are still trying something out!"
