With the drop in air temperatures, boilers in homes have been put back into operation. Failure to perform regular maintenance on boilers and radiators, which are used more intensively during the winter months, can both increase energy consumption and lead to device malfunctions and safety risks.
Mehmet Ünlügül, President of the Konya Chamber of Plumbing and Heating Technicians, stated that boiler maintenance should be performed every year without neglect, adding that regular maintenance contributes to the device running more quietly and efficiently. According to Ünlügül, the probability of encountering high bills increases in devices that are not maintained.

WARNING OF SAVINGS WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE
Recommending that boiler and radiator maintenance be performed once a year, Ünlügül stated that the risk of malfunction increases in neglected devices due to sedimentation. Stating that the service life of the boiler can be extended through regular maintenance, Ünlügül said that citizens could achieve savings of up to 30 percent on their natural gas bills.

Some simple precautions also stand out for efficient heating in radiators. It is recommended not to cover the front or top of radiators, to position curtains so they do not block the heat emitted by the radiators, and not to place flower pots, marble, or similar items on top of the radiators.

BEWARE OF THE RISK OF UNAUTHORIZED SERVICE
Ünlügül also emphasized that maintenance procedures should be performed by authorized and registered technicians. He stated that incorrect interventions by individuals found randomly on the internet who are not registered can lead to boiler malfunctions, higher costs, and in some cases, serious dangers such as gas leaks.

Stating that citizens should check the technician's ID card, chamber registration certificate, and the invoice after the transaction when calling for service, Ünlügül noted that replaced parts should also be shown item by item on the invoice. It was stated that these checks are important both for safety and for being able to find a point of contact in case of potential problems.

Not closing ventilation vents in areas where natural gas is used was also among the warnings given. Ünlügül stated that the vents are not related to heat loss, but are connected to gas leaks and the correct combustion conditions of the device, and that these areas must be kept open at all times.
