New allegation regarding Hafize Gaye Erkan! An unprecedented practice in Central Bank history...

Allegations raised regarding the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) have become a major topic on Turkey's agenda.

It has been claimed that Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan allocated an office and an official vehicle at the bank to her father, that Erol Erkan slapped a bank employee, and that the bank's social facilities were reserved for the Erkan family.

While it is alleged that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also uncomfortable with the claims that have occupied the public agenda, a new allegation regarding the Central Bank has emerged.

10 Haber columnist Erdal Sağlam stated that the Monetary Policy Committee (PPK) meeting, where the first interest rate decision of 2024 will be announced, has turned into a meeting where people are wondering whether personal disputes will take precedence over the decisions to be made.

Sharing information he obtained from behind-the-scenes sources at this point, Sağlam noted the following:

"(...) According to what we have heard, Central Bank Governor Gaye Erkan appears to have no direct contact with any executive within the bank other than a few people close to her.

The most important indicator of this is that a management style has been adopted where employees, and even general managers and deputy governors, receive instructions not from the governor, but from Chief of Staff Sinan Güler. It is observed that such a practice is occurring for the first time at the Central Bank. (...)"
