A new era begins at ATMs: The era of 200 TL and 100 TL banknotes

With rising inflation, economic fluctuations across the country, and the decline in the purchasing power of cash, the use of small banknotes in daily life has gradually decreased. As a result, it has emerged that banks have begun preparations for a new era. 

Former Ziraat Bank Deputy General Manager and academician Şenol Babuşcu recently shared the details of the new era that will begin at ATMs. 

ATMS WILL ONLY CONTAIN 200 TL BANKNOTES

Şenol Babuşcu's statements are as follows:

"Banks are now only putting 200 and 100 TL banknotes into ATMs. After the 5, 10, and 20 TL banknotes, they also stopped putting in 50 TL banknotes. From the beginning of 2025, they will only load 200 TL banknotes," he said. 

If this situation comes to pass, ATMs will have entered a new era in 20 days.

WILL 500 TL BANKNOTES BE RELEASED?

Following this situation, the question of whether a 500 TL banknote will be released came to mind. According to the information obtained, 500 TL banknotes will be released in 2025, and it will be possible to withdraw 200 and 500 TL banknotes from ATMs.

If this situation occurs, small businesses that need small change may have to struggle through a difficult period. Because if ATMs only provide 200 TL banknotes, businesses that cannot withdraw smaller denomination banknotes from ATMs may experience difficulties in situations such as providing change.
