New installment limits for purchases announced: 4 months for electronics, 18 months for travel

New installment limits for purchases made outside of credit cards, shopping loans, and consumer financing have been clarified. Following the regulation change published in the Official Gazette on October 15, 2026, the Ministry of Trade announced the maximum installment periods that will apply to methods such as promissory note sales.

The regulation came to the agenda after the Ministry of Trade was granted the authority to determine installment periods and impose additional restrictions on installment purchases of goods and services, excluding housing sales. In this context, purchases made via promissory notes in stores and post-sale debt installment practices will be evaluated within the framework of these new limits.

INSTALLMENT PERIODS BY PRODUCT GROUP

According to the limits announced by the Ministry, the price of the product will determine the number of installments for television sales. The maximum installment period will be 9 months for televisions priced under 5 thousand liras, and 4 months for televisions priced at 5 thousand liras and above. Installments of up to 4 months can be applied for electronic goods such as video cameras and sound systems, and up to 6 months for tablet computers.

The maximum installment period for home appliances and furniture purchases has been set at 9 months. The same installment limit will apply to products such as refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, and small electrical home appliances, regardless of price. A 9-month upper limit will also apply to furniture sales.

Among the announced periods, the longest term is provided for domestic travel and accommodation expenses. Installments of up to 18 months will be available for domestic expenditures related to airlines, travel agencies, and accommodation services.

These new limits do not mean the same thing for every payment method. The rules determined by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) remain in effect for transactions made via credit cards, shopping loans, and consumer financing. Therefore, consumers need to check the payment method, the maximum number of installments that can be applied, and any additional conditions before making a purchase.
