New picture emerges for retiree and civil servant raises! How much will the lowest salary be?

Millions of retirees and civil servants, whose purchasing power has declined in the face of high inflation and rising living costs, are focused on the salary increases to be made in July. With the inflation data for the first five months of the year finalized and expectations for June taking shape, salary calculations have also begun to emerge. According to the latest formula discussed in political circles, raising the lowest pension, which has been applied as 20,000 liras since January, to 23,500 liras is on the agenda.

FIRST 5-MONTH INFLATION REACHED 16.60 PERCENT

According to data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), inflation in May was 1.71 percent on a monthly basis. Thus, the cumulative inflation rate for the January-May period was 16.60 percent.

The official inflation figures for the first five months of the year are as follows:

  • January: 4.84 percent
  • February: 2.96 percent
  • March: 1.94 percent
  • April: 4.18 percent
  • May: 1.71 percent

ALL EYES ON JUNE DATA FOR RAISE RATE

In the Central Bank's June 2026 Market Participants Survey, the inflation expectation for June was calculated as 1.36 percent. In line with this estimate, the total six-month inflation is expected to be in the 17.5 to 18 percent band.

SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees will receive a raise equal to the six-month inflation rate. The final rate will be clarified with the June inflation to be announced at the beginning of July.

23,500 TL FORMULA FOR THE LOWEST PENSION

The decrease in the purchasing power of the current 20,000 lira base pension due to high inflation has brought the expectation of a new regulation for the lowest pension to the agenda.

According to information reflected in economic circles, it is planned to increase the lowest pension to 23,500 liras by providing a support of approximately 3,500 liras to the base salary. A legal step must be taken for the regulation to be implemented.

RAISES FOR CIVIL SERVANTS AND CIVIL SERVANT RETIREES ARE ALSO TAKING SHAPE

The raise rate for civil servants and civil servant retirees, who receive an inflation difference in addition to the collective bargaining agreement raise, was calculated as 12.40 percent in the first five months.

With the announcement of the June data, the final raise rate that civil servants and civil servant retirees will receive in July will also be determined.

The June inflation to be announced by TÜİK at the beginning of July will determine the framework for the increase to be made in the income of millions of retirees and civil servants who are waiting for a salary adjustment due to high inflation and the cost of living.
