New restructuring steps for credit card debtors on the agenda

At the Financial Stability Committee meeting hosted by Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, issues regarding maintaining economic stability and providing support to debtors were discussed. Important topics such as price stability and debt restructuring were on the table during the meeting.

The results of the 48-month maturity restructuring program implemented by banks for individual credit card and consumer loan debts were also evaluated at this meeting. This program, which was initiated upon the recommendation of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency, ended on October 10, 2025. However, it was stated that a new restructuring period could be on the agenda after analyzing this process.

In the statement made after the meeting, it was reported that the growth trends of non-bank financial institutions and their effects on the economy were examined in detail. The committee emphasized that a holistic approach has been adopted to maintain financial stability in line with the goal of "balanced and sustainable growth." In this context, attention was drawn to the importance of the public and private sectors acting in harmony.

The new restructuring proposals on the Financial Stability Committee's agenda are considered promising, especially for citizens with credit card debt. The economic management will continue to maintain a determined stance on reducing the debt burden and increasing payment facilities.
