New wage hike demand for public sector workers!

TÜRK-İŞ President Ergün Atalay stated that there is a need for an adjustment in the wages of public sector workers, noting that this adjustment could be called an "additional raise" or an "improvement." Atalay emphasized that a step must be taken in this direction.

He recalled that the Public Collective Bargaining Agreement Framework Protocol, which determined the financial and social rights for the 2023-2024 period, was signed in May. However, pointing out that the rates in the agreement have eroded due to high inflation, Atalay said they have mobilized the TÜRK-İŞ Public Coordination Board to address these losses.

Atalay stated that as a result of these efforts, an additional protocol signed on January 29 also benefited public sector workers whose contracts had different effective dates, noting that a 32.57 percent increase was applied to the wages of approximately 230 thousand public sector workers.

However, Atalay indicated that this increase is not sufficient in the face of high inflation and rising costs. Atalay emphasized that the wages of public sector workers need to be readjusted and that action must be taken on this matter.

Atalay also drew attention to the high income tax paid by employees on their wages, stating that there is an unfair practice regarding taxes. Noting that the demands of subcontracted workers for permanent staff status continue, Atalay said these demands must be met.
