On the market for 39 years: Giant brand withdraws from tea production in Turkey

UK-based tea brand Lipton has ended its 39-year presence in Turkey. In announcements made in October, it was stated that Lipton would transfer its production facilities in Rize to Öz-Gür Çay. This transfer process became official with the approval of the Competition Authority, and Lipton has completely withdrawn from tea production in Turkey.

In a previous statement, Lipton had noted, "An agreement has been reached in the negotiations between Lipton Teas and Infusions and Öz-Gür Çay A.Ş. for the transfer of the shares of Lipton Çay Üretim A.Ş., which owns our fresh tea processing facilities in Pazar and Fındıklı, Rize, to Öz-Gür Çay A.Ş. As required by the legal process, the matter has been submitted to the Competition Authority for evaluation and approval."

OTHER DEVELOPMENTS IN THE TEA SECTOR

While Lipton was continuing its operations in Turkey, it had established a new innovation, tea blending, and packaging facility in Sakarya in 2025 with an investment of 30 million Euros. This facility will continue its operations. Another significant development in the tea sector occurred this year; US-based JDE Peet's transferred Ofçay, which it owned, to the local producer Efor Çay.
