Özgür Demirtaş reacts to the ministry's decision: 'Don't you have anything better to do?'

The Ministry of Trade has designated Sunday as the fixed day off for barbers, beauty salons, and hairdressers in Istanbul. The ministry will impose administrative sanctions on businesses that do not comply with the decision and open their shops on Sundays.

Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş reacted to this decision by the Ministry of Trade.

Sharing on his X account, Demirtaş stated that he stands with the barbers and hairdressers, asking, "Is it true that barbers and hairdressers have been banned from working on Sundays in Istanbul by a governor's office decision?"

For God's sake, we work during the week. Sunday is the day for getting a haircut. Why are you making such a decision? Don't you have anything better to do?

Decision for Sunday as a day off for barbers, hairdressers, and beauty salons in Istanbul

The Ministry of Trade's practice of having barbers, hairdressers, and beauty salons closed one day a week nationwide came into effect on July 1.

Following the decision, Istanbul Chamber of Barbers President Şükrü Akyüz announced in a statement regarding the matter that barbers in Istanbul would be closed on Sundays.
