Personal consumption expenditures data released in the US: Will impact US inflation

Personal consumption expenditures data released in the US: Will impact US inflation

The US Department of Commerce announced that personal consumption expenditures recorded an increase of 0.8 percent in February, exceeding expectations. Since the released data is considered directly related to inflation in the US, it may influence the Fed's future interest rate decisions.

Accordingly, personal income in the country rose by 0.3 percent in February compared to the previous month.

Personal income, which fell below market expectations during this period, was projected to increase by 0.4 percent. The increase in Americans' personal income had been 1 percent in January.

Personal consumption expenditures also showed their strongest monthly increase since January 2023, rising by 0.8 percent on a monthly basis in February.

Market expectations were for personal consumption expenditures to increase by 0.5 percent.

The personal consumption expenditures price index increased by 0.3 percent on a monthly basis and 2.5 percent on an annual basis in February.

During this period, the personal consumption expenditures price index, which was expected to increase by 0.4 percent monthly, was in line with market expectations on an annual basis.

The personal consumption expenditures price index had increased by 0.4 percent on a monthly basis and 2.4 percent on an annual basis in January.

The core personal consumption expenditures price index, which excludes food and energy items and is considered by the US Federal Reserve as an inflation indicator, also increased by 0.3 percent on a monthly basis and 2.8 percent on an annual basis during the same period, in line with expectations.

The index had risen by 0.5 percent monthly and 2.9 percent annually in January.
