Prices of 700 products changed overnight before the minimum wage even hit pockets!
Before the new minimum wage, set at 17 thousand 2 TL, even reached the pockets of citizens, price hikes were applied to 700 products simultaneously in chain supermarkets.
The wave of price hikes that began at the end of 2023 continues unabated in 2024. This time, the products with the highest price increases were identified as butter, cheese, and milk. Egg prices did not stand still either. A product sold for 54 liras yesterday is 74 liras today. According to the report on Show Haber, over 700 products in chain supermarkets underwent label changes in a single night.
Following the increase in raw milk, prices have practically taken flight. A yogurt that was sold for 150 liras has become 220 liras. It went up by nearly 70 liras overnight. If you had bought 950 grams of butter 3 days ago, it would have been 352 liras and 50 kurus. However, its price today has become 418 liras. That means a 60-lira hike in one go.
The price of a white cheese rose from 159 liras and 50 kurus to 190 liras. That is a 30-lira increase. The old price of 1 kilogram of kashar cheese was 120 liras. It is now 160 liras. That means it increased by 40 liras in one go. The situation did not change for bottled water either. The price of 19 liters of water went up from 70 liras to 100 liras.
